Mitsotakis and Archbishop Ieronymos discuss church property use at Lycabettus dinner

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis hosted a private dinner with Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens at the roof garden of the prime‑minister’s residence on Lycabettus. Only the prime minister’s wife, Mareva Grambowski, was present; no aides or prior announcement accompanied the meeting.

The two leaders used the informal setting to review the expanding cooperation between the state and the Greek Orthodox Church. Key topics included accelerating the exploitation of church‑owned land that remains legally locked, such as the Fascomilia area in Vouliagmeni, and launching student‑housing projects to address the current housing crisis. The archbishop also raised the matter of equalising clergy salaries with senior civil servants, a change announced the previous month.

This was the fourth encounter between Mitsotakis and Ieronymos in the past 18 months, occurring amid a prolonged pre‑election period in which both sides aim to keep ecclesiastical issues from becoming politicised.
