Mitsubishi announces 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV launch
Mitsubishi has announced the launch of the 2027 Eclipse Sportback EV in the United States, marking the company’s return to the American electric vehicle market. The vehicle is built on the same platform as the Nissan LEAF, utilizing a shared 75 kWh liquid-cooled battery and a 214-horsepower, single-motor, front-wheel drive powertrain.
Despite the shared underpinnings, the Eclipse Sportback EV is priced higher than its Nissan counterpart. The Mitsubishi starts at $37,745, which reaches $39,740 including a $1,995 destination fee. This is approximately $8,000 more than the base 2026 Nissan LEAF. The Eclipse features a native NACS port for Tesla Supercharger compatibility and offers a DC fast charging rate of up to 150 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in roughly 35 minutes.
The Eclipse Sportback EV offers an EPA-estimated range of up to 282 miles, whereas the base Nissan LEAF S+ provides up to 303 miles. Mitsubishi describes the vehicle as “exceptionally well equipped,” offering a single optional upgrade: a $2,600 Technology Package. The launch is part of Mitsubishi’s “Momentum 2030” business plan aimed at expanding its electrified model portfolio.
