Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback and Kia EV2 launch as new compact electric SUVs in Europe
Mitsubishi announced the Eclipse Sportback, a compact electric SUV built on the latest Nissan LEAF platform. The model features a redesigned front fascia with the Triple Diamond badge, new rear lighting, and sport‑style alloy wheels. Production is set for the second half of the year, with specifications, pricing and exact launch dates to be confirmed.
Kia introduced the EV2, a 4.06‑metre‑long urban SUV aimed at the European market, directly competing with Renault’s 4 E‑Tech. The EV2 offers a single powertrain of 147 hp with two battery options: a 42.2 kWh pack delivering up to 317 km WLTP range, and a 61 kWh pack offering up to 448 km. Renault’s rival provides a 120‑hp base version with a 40 kWh battery (308 km range) and a 150‑hp model with a 52 kWh pack (409 km range). Both vehicles include V2L/V2G capabilities, One‑Pedal driving, and fast‑charging options, with Kia supporting an optional 22 kW AC charger.
