Mitsubishi Electric to acquire US software firm PCI Energy Solutions for $1.4 billion

Mitsubishi Electric has agreed to acquire PCI Energy Solutions, a US-based energy management software provider, for a base price of $1.4 billion. The deal, announced on August 20, 2026, aims to strengthen Mitsubishi Electric’s presence in the smart energy sector by combining PCI’s optimization technology with Mitsubishi’s control and component expertise.

Founded in 1992 and based in Oklahoma, PCI Energy Solutions (legally Power Costs Inc.) provides software used by energy providers for electricity trading, demand forecasting, generation scheduling, and risk management. Notably, PCI’s platform is used to manage approximately 60% of electricity generation in the United States market. The company operates primarily through a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, serving over 120 customers.

The acquisition is expected to close within 2026, pending regulatory approvals. The final purchase price will be adjusted based on PCI’s cash, debt, and working capital at the time of closing.
