Mitsubishi Estate begins construction on YURAKUCHO PARK in Tokyo
Mitsubishi Estate has commenced construction on ‘YURAKUCHO PARK’, a new urban space located on the approximately 10,000 square meter site of the former Yurakucho and Shin-Yurakucho buildings in Tokyo. Scheduled for completion in 2027, the project serves as a transitional phase to prepare the area for future large-scale redevelopment.
The development features innovative architectural techniques, including the use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) for structural elements like columns and beams, which is a pioneering approach in the district. The project also emphasizes ‘circular architecture,’ utilizing specialized hardware that allows the CLT structures and certain plantings to be relocated after their temporary use.
To maintain accessibility during construction, the project employs ‘reduction construction’ (genchiku), leaving a specific section of the former Shin-Yurakucho Building intact to preserve the connection to the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Station. The site will host retail, dining, and event spaces, including the ‘JAPA VALLEY TOKYO’ project produced by NOT A HOTEL.
