Mitsubishi Heavy Industries launches electric transport refrigeration units in Europe

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has launched the TEU series of all-electric-driven transport refrigeration units (TRUs) in the European market. Developed by MHI Thermal Systems, these units are designed specifically for use in electric commercial vehicles.

The TEU series utilizes a modular construction that separates the condenser, evaporator, and compressor into compact modules. This design allows for flexible installation in various electric vehicles, accommodating different fitting constraints and space limitations often caused by battery placement. Compared to the conventional TU series, which uses a separate genset, the TEU series offers a 30% reduction in volume, a 40% smaller required opening width/area, and a 55% reduction in weight. This lightweight design helps extend the range of electric vehicles.

Key features include high refrigeration capacity via an economiser cycle and support for multiple power supply types, such as vehicle batteries or dedicated TRU batteries. The TEU1400MA model specifically allows for the simultaneous transport of cargo at different temperature ranges through a multi-evaporator system. Sales in Europe are managed by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Transport Europe GmbH, based in Osnabrück, Germany.
