Mitsubishi Motors announces return of Pajero SUV
Mitsubishi Motors has announced the return of its flagship Pajero SUV, with the fifth-generation model scheduled for release on December 17. The new vehicle aims to balance off-road capability and luxury, introducing a new ‘Prestige’ concept alongside the existing ‘Confidence’ and ‘Comfort’ philosophies.
The fifth-generation Pajero features a 2.4L clean diesel engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and a high-rigidity ladder frame. It is equipped with the S-AWC vehicle motion control system and Super Select 4WD-II. Safety features include ‘MI-PILOT’ highway driving assistance and an eight-airbag system, including an SRS center airbag.
During the global unveiling, Mitsubishi President Keisuke Kishiura indicated that the Pajero’s return is tied to the company’s motorsport ambitions. Mitsubishi is considering entering the new Pajero into the 2027 Asia Cross Country Rally (AXCR) and expressed long-term intentions to return to the Dakar Rally and potentially the World Rally Championship (WRC).
