Mitsubishi plans major redesign for next-generation Outlander

Mitsubishi is planning a major overhaul for the next generation of its Outlander model, which is expected to debut in 2028. The redesign is a central part of the brand's renewal strategy following a decline in US market deliveries, which fell from 45,253 to 35,895 units last year.

Engineers are considering a significant upgrade to the hybrid system by integrating up to four electric motors. This configuration would allow each wheel to have an independent drive module, evolving the brand's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system to improve off-road capability and cornering stability.

The aesthetic direction is expected to draw inspiration from the Mitsubishi Elevance prototype shown at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show, featuring aggressive proportions and slim LED lighting elements.
