Mitsubishi revives Pajero nameplate with fifth-generation SUV

Mitsubishi is relaunching its iconic Pajero nameplate with a fifth-generation model, marking its return after a five-year production hiatus that began in 2021. The new flagship SUV will utilize a ladder-frame chassis, moving away from the unibody structure used in the third and fourth generations. It shares its mechanical platform with the Triton (L200) pickup truck.

The new model features a 2.4-liter diesel engine producing 204 horsepower, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) permanent all-wheel-drive system. The vehicle measures approximately 4.92 meters in length with a 2.87-meter wheelbase and offers seven-passenger seating.

Mitsubishi plans to expand the Pajero brand into a broader lineup. This includes a compact crossover variant expected around 2028 or 2029, which will feature a unibody chassis and electrified powertrains to compete with vehicles like the Toyota RAV4. There are also indications of a smaller, potentially kei-sized model in development for the Japanese market.
