Mitsubishi to launch ASX VR-e electric SUV in Australia

Mitsubishi Motors ASX VR-e Foxtron electric vehicles Mitsubishi Australia

Mitsubishi Motors is set to introduce the ASX VR-e, its first mainstream electric vehicle in Australia in nearly 15 years, scheduled for release in late 2026. The compact SUV is a badge-engineered version of the Foxtron Bria, an electric vehicle produced by the Taiwanese joint venture between Foxconn and Yulon.

Despite Mitsubishi's existing alliance with Nissan and Renault, the company chose to collaborate with Foxtron for this project. Mitsubishi Australia CEO Shunichi Kihara stated that the decision was based on evaluation results and emphasized that the company remains open to collaborating with other partners where appropriate.

The ASX VR-e will be available in several variants, including single-motor, rear-drive models (LS, Aspire, and Exceed) and a dual-motor AWD flagship (GSR). The vehicle has been specifically tuned for the Australian and New Zealand markets, with adjustments made to its electric power steering, suspension, and active-safety electronics.
