Mitsui Chemicals launches InnoCell P-Type culture plates for organoid research
Mitsui Chemicals has launched InnoCell™ P-Type, a new adherent cell culture plate designed to support the development of organoids and 3D cell-tissue models. The product combines proprietary highly oxygen-permeable materials with specialized surface treatment technology to help cells maintain functions closer to those observed in vivo.
In 3D cell culture, thick tissue structures often suffer from insufficient oxygen supply, which can impact tissue uniformity and data reproducibility. The InnoCell™ P-Type addresses this by providing high gas permeability, enhanced cell adhesion, low autofluorescence for better imaging, and low drug adsorption to minimize interference with assay compounds.
Research applications have already demonstrated the product's utility. Professor Hidetoshi Masumoto of Kansai Medical University used the plates to culture human iPS cell-derived heart organoids, observing more uniform tissue thickness and increased cardiomyocyte layer density compared to standard polystyrene plates. Additionally, research at the University of Michigan indicated that the plates allow for high-sensitivity evaluation of epithelial barrier functions in human intestinal organoids without the need for traditional porous membrane inserts.
