Mitsui Ocean Cruises christens new luxury ship Sakura
Mitsui Ocean Cruises has officially christened its second five-star vessel, the Mitsui Ocean Sakura, in Yokohama. The all-suite ship, which was formerly the Seabourn Sojourn, is designed to accommodate 458 guests and offers views from every suite. Its compact size is intended to allow access to smaller Japanese ports that are often inaccessible to larger cruise ships.
The Mitsui Ocean Sakura is scheduled to begin its inaugural voyage on September 19, 2026. This launch doubles the company’s fleet, which currently includes the Mitsui Ocean Fuji. The brand focuses on two core Japanese philosophies: ‘funatabi’, which emphasizes immersion in Japanese heritage and nature, and ‘omotenashi’, the art of intuitive hospitality.
