Mitsui O.S.K. Lines sees stock price rise fivefold amid new dividend policy

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has experienced significant financial growth, with its stock price increasing approximately fivefold over a five-year period, rising from a high of 1,462 yen in March 2021 to 7,325 yen in March 2026. This surge was largely driven by a rapid expansion in maritime transport demand and rising freight rates following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under its new management plan, ‘BLUE ACTION 2035 Phase 2’, the company is implementing a progressive dividend policy with a minimum payout of 205 yen per share and targeting a total shareholder return ratio of 40%.

To support its transition into a ‘global social infrastructure company’, MOL is also focusing on organizational transformation. Chief Communication Officer Sanae Sonoda emphasizes the importance of evolving the corporate culture to accommodate a more diverse workforce resulting from global expansion and M&A activities, moving away from high-context communication toward more inclusive and structured organizational practices.
