Mitsuoka unveils LA1, a Mazda MX-5 tribute to the first-gen Corvette

Japanese automotive manufacturer Mitsuoka Motors has unveiled the LA1, a new roadster that uses the modern Mazda MX-5 Miata as its foundation. The vehicle features a retro design inspired by the first-generation Chevrolet Corvette (C1).

Key design elements include dual round headlights, a chrome grille, a vented hood, and side coves reminiscent of the 1950s American classic. The car also incorporates alloy bumpers and integrated taillights. While the exterior is heavily modified, the chassis and mechanical components remain based on the Mazda MX-5 ND.

Though specific engine details are not fully confirmed, the vehicle is expected to utilize Mazda’s inline-four engines, such as the 1.5L SkyActiv-G. A full presentation of the LA1 is scheduled for late November 2026. Production is expected to be limited, likely targeting the Japanese market, with no immediate plans for right-hand drive availability in the United States.
