Mitte leader Philipp Bregy proposes plan to curb rising Swiss healthcare costs
Philipp Matthias Bregy, president of the Mitte party, is calling for stricter controls on rising healthcare costs in Switzerland. In an interview with Blick, Bregy expressed frustration over the continuous increase in health insurance premiums, which are expected to rise again in 2027. Projections suggest the average monthly standard premium could exceed 400 Swiss francs for the first time, with potential increases of up to 5 percent.
To combat this trend, Bregy has proposed a five-point plan aimed at stabilizing costs. His strategy includes strengthening basic medical care, improving prevention, and ensuring that savings from drug discounts are passed directly to the insured. He criticized the failure of the previous cost-brake initiative, which faced significant opposition from the healthcare lobby, noting that the rising costs place a heavy burden on families and middle-income earners.
