San Juan relief efforts begin after tornado impacts Dominican communities

Government agencies in the Dominican Republic have launched emergency relief efforts in the San Juan province following a tornado and strong winds that impacted several communities in the Las Matas de Farfán municipality.

The Direction of Social Assistance and Community Feeding (DASAC) has provided food rations and begun repairing roofs for families in the Matayaya district. This intervention has reportedly reached over 500 people across eight communities, including El Naranjo, Guazumal, and Los Corralitos. Authorities are also working to rehabilitate roads damaged by the weather.

Simultaneously, the Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED) has deployed rapid action brigades to the community of El Naranjo. These teams are conducting structural assessments and performing repairs on approximately 48 to 60 affected homes, focusing on roof reconstruction, wall reinforcement, and structural stability. The relief efforts are being coordinated by local government, the provincial governorate, and civil defense.
