Mixco sinkhole swallows water tanker truck in Guatemala
A water tanker truck fell into a sinkhole in Mixco, Guatemala, following the collapse of aging water pipes. The incident occurred in the Pablo VI neighborhood, approximately 17 kilometers west of Guatemala City.
This was the second sinkhole reported in the area within a few hours. Municipal authorities stated that the collapses were caused by pipes that are over 35 years old and have deteriorated despite maintenance efforts. While a vehicle was previously trapped in an earlier sinkhole, the occupants of the tanker truck were reported uninjured.
Local officials noted that the truck entered a restricted area where authorities had already placed warning signs and barriers due to the morning's first sinkhole. The driver reportedly removed some of the signaling before proceeding into the hole. Traffic police have closed the road to prevent further incidents.
