Mixta Africa calls for construction finance in Nigeria housing reforms

Mixta Africa has urged that Nigeria’s proposed National Housing and Built Environment Regulation Policy and National Mortgage Industry Policy must include a credible construction finance framework to effectively address the nation's housing deficit.

Speaking on CNBC Africa, Group Chief Commercial Officer Adetola Akinsulire noted that while the proposed reforms target the trust deficit and buyer finance, they lack a mechanism for construction finance. The reforms, following reports that real estate and construction contributed over N77 trillion to Nigeria’s economy in 2025, include developer registration, escrow protection, land value management, and the establishment of a National Housing Data Observatory.

Akinsulire emphasized that the success of these reforms depends on increasing access to construction funding, improving market trust, and enhancing buyer finance. He also noted that housing affordability should be measured by the duration of payment terms rather than just the headline price.
