Miyagi Prefecture hosts regional festivals and seafood events

Various regional events and festivals took place across Miyagi Prefecture during a weekend of clear weather.

In Ishinomaki, the ‘Ishinomaki Great Catch Festival’ featured a popular seafood auction experience where participants could bid on items such as squid. In Sendai, an educational event focused on the city's sewage system allowed children to learn about infrastructure through activities like a new sewage-themed card game.

In Kesennuma, the ‘Yamada Daimyo Procession,’ a local intangible folk cultural property held once every three years, saw approximately 80 participants in traditional costumes parade through the Yamada district. This event originated over 200 years ago as a prayer for peace during an epidemic.

Additionally, the ‘Sanriku/Tokiwa Seafood Happiness Market’ was scheduled for the Sun Mall Ichibancho shopping arcade in Sendai. The market aims to support local producers from the Sanriku and Tokiwa areas by offering seasonal seafood and processed goods, highlighting the ongoing recovery and vitality of the Tohoku fishing industry.
