Miyamoto International begins debris removal in La Guaira after earthquake
Miyamoto International has officially commenced debris removal operations in La Guaira, Venezuela, to assist in recovery efforts following the double earthquake that occurred on June 24, 2026. The initiative is part of the ‘Plan de Despeje Digno y Seguro’ (Dignified and Safe Clearing Plan), implemented through a contract signed with the Venezuelan government on September 4.
The operation aims to remove three million metric tons of debris. According to Minister of Public Works Juan José Ramírez, over 792,000 metric tons have already been processed, representing more than 37% of the estimated 2.1 million tons generated by the seismic event. The earthquake resulted in at least 6,509 fatalities.
The project integrates the international seismic risk management expertise of Miyamoto International with local technical capabilities, including Venezuelan engineers, the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB), and local contractors. While official operations began on September 22, Kit Miyamoto, founder of the firm, noted that local contractors had already begun preliminary removal work over the preceding weekend.
