Mizoram CEO meets ‘Delete Church’ members over electoral roll refusal
Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta met with members of the ‘Delete Church’ community in the Champhai and Zotlang areas to discuss their refusal to enroll in the state's electoral roll.
The community, which seeks to have its members removed from various government databases, maintains that formal registration with secular government systems is incompatible with their religious beliefs. Members have reportedly avoided other government identifiers, such as Aadhaar and ration cards, citing biblical references to the ‘mark of the Beast’ in the Book of Revelation.
The meeting was part of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, an effort to ensure an accurate and clean electoral roll by verifying eligible citizens and removing ineligible names. Officials described the interaction between the CEO and the community members as cordial.
