Mizoram chief minister declares state free of insurgent groups

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma said the state’s peaceful social environment is now the result of the April 30 surrender of the Hmar Peoples’ Convention (Democratic) Lalhmingthanga Sanate faction, the last ethnic insurgent group in the region. With the surrender of arms and ammunition, Mizoram is officially free of ethnic insurgent groups, which he credited for enabling different communities to coexist peacefully.

Speaking at the Joint Hnampual Meet 2026 in Aizawl, Lalduhoma praised the formation of the Joint Hnampual Students’ Organisation, a coalition of seven ethnic student groups, as a symbol of fraternity. He urged citizens to preserve the hard‑won peace, promote unity among the Zofa people, and adopt a shared language alongside preserving individual tribal languages, citing the slogan “We are Zofas; we cannot be divided.”
