Mizoram churches plan march and teachers pause protests over policy disputes

On July 30, the Council of Churches in Mizoram announced it will organise a protest march in Aizawl on August 11 against the proposed Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026. Rev. R. Lalbiakliana said the march will invite all churches and faith‑based NGOs concerned that the draft could restrict foreign assistance.

That same day, the Mizoram Government Ad hoc‑Aided High School Teachers’ Association suspended its eight‑day agitation after the Zoram People’s Movement government assured the group its grievances over the new Mizoram Education (Lumpsum Grants‑in‑Aid for General Maintenance of Private School) Rules, 2026 would be presented to the Political Affairs Committee on August 12. Teachers were told to resume duties from August 3.
