Mizoram Governor discusses security and language development
Mizoram Governor General (Dr.) V.K. Singh met with Major General Inderjit Singh Bhinder, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (Eastern Sector), to discuss security and development initiatives in the state. The discussions also covered upcoming recruitment rallies. The Assam Rifles is responsible for securing the 510-kilometer unfenced border between India and Myanmar through Mizoram, an area prone to the smuggling of narcotics, rare wildlife, and other prohibited items from Myanmar’s Chin State.
In a separate meeting, officials from the Mizo Language Development Board (MLDB) met with the Governor to discuss the promotion and development of the Mizo language. Governor Singh emphasized the importance of teaching the language to children and non-Mizo speakers. He also expressed a commitment to working with Sahitya Akademi for book publications and pledged to make every effort to include the Mizo language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.
