Mizoram highway project site electrocution kills three workers

Three workers, including a 16-year-old teenager, were electrocuted to death during the widening of National Highway 306 in the Kolasib district of Mizoram. The incident occurred in the Sethon area on Saturday afternoon while workers were attempting to remove an electric pole as part of a four-lane highway project.

The project is being managed by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited. Among the deceased, two were residents of Myanmar and one was from Manipur. Three other workers sustained injuries and have been hospitalized for treatment.

Survivors reported that power supplies had been shut off from three different locations before work began, but they could not explain how the lines became live again. Preliminary investigations suggest that workers may have accidentally operated the wrong air break switch. Authorities have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating the sequence of events regarding the power supply failure.
