Mizoram infrastructure projects to drive regional connectivity and trade
Mizoram is entering a new phase of development driven by major infrastructure projects and economic initiatives. Governor General V. K. Singh (Retd) highlighted the Bairabi-Sairang railway line and the proposed 200 km extension to Zorinpui as transformative assets. This extension is intended to connect with the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project, linking the state to Paletwa and the Sittwe Port in Myanmar.
The Governor emphasized the need for the state to prepare for increased connectivity by improving tourism facilities, establishing market linkages for local agricultural and handicraft products, and encouraging youth to compete globally.
Chief Minister Lalduhoma also noted significant economic progress, including the implementation of the Mizoram Bana Kaih (Handholding) Scheme and the establishment of a Rs 20-crore Venture Capital Fund to support entrepreneurship. The state has also introduced an Investment Policy for 2025 and reported rising tax collections, alongside advancements in e-governance and agricultural support, particularly for the ginger industry.
