Mizoram launches maternal health roadmap and digital finance initiatives
The Mizoram government has introduced two major strategic initiatives aimed at improving public health and financial transparency. State Health and Family Welfare Minister Lalrinpuii launched the SUMAN roadmap 2030, a program designed to reduce preventable maternal and newborn deaths. The roadmap aims to lower the maternal mortality rate to below 70 deaths per 100,000 live births by 2030 by ensuring timely and quality healthcare during pregnancy and childbirth.
In a separate development, Chief Minister Lalduhoma launched four digital financial management tools: the Mizoram Integrated Works Accounts System (MIWAS), e-Sanction, e-Budget, and a 100% Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system. These initiatives, implemented under the Finance Department, are intended to enhance accountability and efficiency in public finance management. The digital modules will streamline budget proposals, expenditure sanctions, and works accounts across several departments, while the DBT system will ensure state scheme payments are transferred directly to beneficiaries' bank accounts.
