Mizoram leaders discuss development and engineering innovation

Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma met with NITI Aayog Member Dr. Joram Aniya in Aizawl to discuss the state's development vision. The discussions focused on several key initiatives, including attracting more tourists, expanding Atal Tinkering Labs in schools, and strengthening the agricultural sector through ginger processing and value addition. The state, recognized as the ‘Ginger Capital of India’ by NITI Aayog in 2025, aims to create more economic opportunities through these sectors.

Strategic infrastructure was also a priority, specifically the effective utilization of the Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport Project (KMMTTP) once completed. This project is intended to connect Mizoram with Myanmar, providing an alternative multimodal connectivity route for the landlocked state.

Separately, Mizoram Governor General VK Singh (Retd) addressed the Institution of Engineers (India) Industry and Education Excellence Summit. He noted that the Northeastern region’s challenging terrain and strategic location present complex engineering hurdles but also offer opportunities for innovation. He emphasized the need for terrain-sensitive, climate-resilient, and digitally enabled infrastructure to support India’s long-term development goals.
