Mizoram police arrest six in fatal road rage killing of Assam Regiment soldier

Police in Mizoram have arrested six individuals and detained two minors following the fatal assault of a 29-year-old Assam Regiment soldier, Zakaria Lalhriattluanga. The incident occurred on September 20 near Bualpui village in the Kolasib district.

Lalhriattluanga, who was posted in Jammu and Kashmir, was traveling toward his home in New Builum on vacation. According to reports, a dispute arose on National Highway-306 when two vehicles struggled to pass each other on a damaged stretch of road. The argument escalated into a physical altercation involving a group of youths, reportedly returning from a picnic. Lalhriattluanga was attacked while attempting to protect his friend, John Laltanpuia, during the confrontation.

The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Mizoram Liquor Prohibition Act, 2019. The six adults have been remanded to judicial custody at the Kolasib District Prison and Correctional Centre, while the minors remain under the supervision of the district Juvenile Justice Board.
