Mizoram to expand ginger cultivation following NITI Aayog recognition

Mizoram plans to significantly expand its ginger cultivation following its recognition as the ‘Ginger Capital of India’ by NITI Aayog. Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister P. C. Vanlalruata stated that the state government is implementing initiatives to boost production and strengthen the sector's potential.

In addition to ginger, the government is promoting the cultivation of sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, toor dal, and mustard seeds. To support these efforts, an Edible Oil Processing Plant was inaugurated at Falkawn, Aizawl, under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana – Detailed Project Report (RKVY-DPR) 2023-24.

The state aims to focus on the processing and value addition of agricultural produce to provide sustainable livelihoods for farmers and contribute to the overall development of Mizoram.
