Mizoram's MNF urges MPs to reject India's FCRA Amendment Bill

Mizo National Front (MNF) vice‑president Lalchhandama Ralte called on Mizoram’s two parliamentarians – one in the Lok Sabha and one in the Rajya Sabha – to vote against the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill. He said the proposal would threaten churches, NGOs, schools, orphanages and other charitable institutions that rely on foreign funding, and would centralise control of such contributions.

The bill, introduced in the Lok Sabha during the Budget session, is slated for consideration in the Monsoon session of Parliament. Although the MNF is part of the BJP‑led NDA at the centre, it has aligned with other North‑East parties, including the National People’s Party (NPP) of Meghalaya, which also plans to oppose the amendment and seek a Joint Parliamentary Committee to review its impact on NGOs, schools and hospitals.

Both parties argue that the amendments could severely restrict foreign assistance to religious and charitable organisations across the region.
