Mizuho Bank to suspend unused paper passbooks from March 2027
Mizuho Bank will begin automatically suspending the use of paper passbooks that have not been updated for a certain period, starting March 3, 2027. This policy applies to individual and sole proprietor accounts for ordinary, savings, and time deposits.
The condition for suspension is a failure to record entries in the passbook for more than three consecutive years. For ordinary and savings accounts, the account must also have an issued cash card. Accounts meeting these criteria at the end of each month starting in February 2027 will have their paper passbook privileges suspended sequentially in the following month.
While the paper passbook itself will become unusable for recording or transactions, the bank clarified that the underlying accounts will remain active. Customers can continue to perform deposits, withdrawals, and transactions using cash cards. To restore paper passbook functionality, customers must complete specific procedures, which are free of charge unless the passbook has been lost.
