M6 motorway MKIF Zrt. Dávid Vitézy concession dispute infrastructure tender

Minister of Transport and Investment Dávid Vitézy has announced that the government intends to re-tender the motorway concession for the M6 section between Érd and Dunaújváros. Vitézy alleged that the current operator, MKIF Zrt., submitted an offer that was three times more expensive than available alternatives, estimating costs for the 2026–2037 period at 149 billion HUF compared to a potential 51 billion HUF. The Minister further suggested that the previous decision to designate MKIF Zrt. as the operator lacked sufficient documentation and was made under prior political leadership.

MKIF Zrt., a company linked to Lőrinc Mészáros and László Szíjj, issued a statement responding to these allegations. The company maintains that it has acted in full compliance with all laws and its existing contracts with the Hungarian State. MKIF Zrt. rejected claims of illegal activity or causing harm to the state, noting that it won the contract through an open public procurement process requiring the highest level of service and extensive infrastructure renovations.

The company also disputed the validity of the overpricing comparisons, stating that the figures cited by the Ministry are incomparable because they do not account for identical technical content, service standards, financing conditions, or risk profiles. MKIF Zrt. noted it has not yet received official notification from the Ministry regarding the decision to re-tender the concession.
