Mladá Boleslav's Putna Tower Sets New World Tilt Record

Geodetic measurements confirmed that the defensive tower of the Michalovice castle ruins near Mladá Boleslav leans at 7.315 degrees, surpassing the Leaning Tower of Pisa and becoming the most tilted unintentionally built structure worldwide. The city council will consider whether to pursue official recognition in the Guinness World Records, a process that could cost up to 900,000 CZK, while a domestic Czech record entry would be far cheaper.

Councilor Robin Povšík noted growing public interest, with about 2,000 visitors each season, and indicated the decision may be delayed until after upcoming municipal elections. The tower, known locally as Putna, dates back to the 13th‑century castle and was partially destabilised in the 19th century during a treasure‑hunting incident, but has since been structurally secured and remains open to the public.
