Málaga Airport to receive 830 million euro expansion investment

The Spanish government has approved an 830 million euro investment for the Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport as part of the third Airport Regulation Document (DORA III). This funding, part of a larger 13 billion euro national investment plan by Aena between 2027 and 2031, aims to expand the terminal space from 80,000 to 140,000 square meters.

The expansion is designed to increase the airport's capacity to 36 million passengers annually, addressing current limits as it approaches its 30 million passenger ceiling. Planned improvements include a new pier for non-Schengen flights with centralized passport control, increased aircraft stands, expanded security areas with advanced scanners, and a redesigned baggage system.

Málaga-Costa del Sol remains Spain's fourth busiest airport by passenger volume. The facility is a major economic driver for the region, supporting nearly 12,000 direct jobs and approximately 500 companies within its premises. Between January and August 2026, the airport handled nearly 20 million travelers, with peak activity in August reaching an average of 100,000 users per day.
