Málaga and Almería set for LaLiga promotion playoff showdown

Almería and Málaga will meet in the two‑leg playoff to decide the final promotion spot to Spain’s top‑flight LaLiga for the 2026‑27 season. Both clubs advanced after eliminating Las Palmas and Castellón in earlier rounds of the Segunda División playoffs. The first leg is scheduled for Sunday, 14 May, at Málaga’s La Rosaleda stadium, where Málaga secured a 1‑0 win. The return match will be played on Saturday, 20 May, at the UD Almería stadium. The second leg ended 1‑1, leaving the aggregate score level, but Almería hold the advantage of a higher regular‑season finish, which gives them the tie‑breaker if the aggregate remains level.

The winner will join Racing Santander and Deportivo La Coruña, who already earned direct promotion, in LaLiga EA Sports for the 2026‑27 campaign.
