Málaga and Costa del Sol see surge in 2027 solar eclipse bookings

The total solar eclipse scheduled for August 2, 2027, is driving a massive surge in early tourism bookings across southern Spain. The province of Málaga is a primary destination, accounting for more than 70% of all reservations made within the path of totality. High-demand areas include the Costa del Sol, specifically Manilva, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, and Málaga city, as well as Chiclana de la Frontera in Cádiz.

This increased interest has led to significant price spikes for accommodations. In Tarifa, where the eclipse's totality is expected to last 4 minutes and 38 seconds, some three-bedroom beachside apartments are being listed for as much as 12,500 euros per night. Other properties in the area are priced at approximately 3,750 euros per night.

Industry representatives from Horeca Cádiz anticipate high occupancy rates, noting that the event coincides with a weekend and a month change, which typically facilitates guest turnover. Travelers are increasingly booking longer stays, with an average duration of four nights for those including the date of the eclipse.
