Málaga begins demolition of hotel damaged by May fire

Demolition work has begun on the Ibis Hotel building in Málaga, which was damaged by a fire on May 25 in the Pasillo Guimbarda area. The project, initiated by the property owners, is expected to take approximately two months to complete, including the removal of resulting debris.

The demolition will utilize mechanical methods involving controlled disintegration with hydraulic machinery and specialized equipment for high-altitude work, such as shears and hydraulic jaw demolishers.

Local traffic will be affected during the process. While the vehicle lane in the Pasillo Guimbarda tunnel will remain open with protective screens and signage in place, the bus lane within the tunnel will remain closed in its first section. The city council expects normal traffic flow, including the bus lane, to be restored within two to three weeks once the primary demolition phase is finished. Additionally, Padre Jorge Lamothe and parts of Cerrojo street will remain closed to vehicles until the works are completed.
