Málaga CF promotion to La Liga sparks city celebrations

Málaga CF secured promotion to Spain's Primera División, ending an eight‑year absence from the top flight. The achievement triggered widespread street parties across the Costa del Sol, with fans gathering to honour the club's return to the elite league.

The city’s mayor, Francisco de la Torre, confirmed that the official celebration will take place on Monday afternoon, stating the municipality will "turn out two days later" to support the team. Club officials and local authorities are coordinating the event, which is expected to draw large crowds.

Midfielder Luismi Sánchez, who missed the promotion due to severe maxillofacial fractures sustained in the season opener, was absent from the festivities. Teammates highlighted his contribution, with captain Alfonso Herrero remarking that "all these youngsters are great, they have made history and must continue, but Luismi is missing – a very important applause for him." The gesture underscored the solidarity of the squad and its supporters.
