Málaga court rejects AI manipulation claim in supermarket theft case

A court in Málaga has upheld the conviction of a woman for an attempted theft at a Mercadona supermarket involving goods valued at 18.59 euros. The items included melting chocolate, melatonin gummies, and a slice of salmon.

During her appeal, the woman claimed that the security footage used as evidence in her trial had been manipulated using artificial intelligence. However, the Provincial Court of Málaga rejected this argument, stating that after reviewing the trial recordings and evidence, there was no basis to doubt the footage or the defendant's involvement in the incident.

While the court maintained the conviction for attempted minor theft, it significantly reduced the fine originally imposed. The initial sentence had required a payment of 200 euros plus legal costs.
