Málaga PP urges government to reinforce exhausted electrical grid
The People's Party (PP) in Málaga has called on the Spanish government to reinforce the province's electrical grid, which is reportedly exhausted with an occupancy rate exceeding 99 percent. According to regional deputy Sandra Extremera, this energy deficit is currently blocking the construction and delivery of more than 25,000 homes.
Extremera urged the central government to follow the example of the Andalusian regional government (Junta) by accelerating energy projects. She highlighted an Endesa project for a new electrical substation in Mijas, which has already received favorable environmental processing from the Junta and a construction license from the Mijas City Council. This project is part of an initiative to increase grid capacity and enable new supplies in the Costa del Sol.
The PP representative noted that Málaga is among the Andalusian provinces where 100 percent of distribution substations are saturated. She criticized the central government's inaction, stating that the energy deficit, combined with existing housing laws, is limiting regional growth, investment, and job creation.
