Málaga water utility Emasa launches water‑efficiency project and opens job pool

The Empresa Municipal de Aguas de Málaga (Emasa) has issued a tender for technical assistance to design an efficiency‑improvement project at the El Atabal water‑treatment plant. The plan aims to cut water extraction from reservoirs and wells by up to 12.5 % and halve the brine reject currently at about 20 % of treated volume, targeting a reduction to 10 %. Expected water savings are roughly 7 hectometres³ per year. The contract, worth €267,010, will run for 11 months and is part of the €18.49‑million SITAguaS innovation programme, which is funded 72.25 % by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and co‑financed with more than €13 million of EU funds.

In parallel, Emasa has opened a temporary employment pool to provide staff for operation and maintenance of its water‑treatment facilities. The recruitment aims to meet future staffing needs for plant operations and upkeep.
