MLB considers expansion and potential return of Montreal Expos

Major League Baseball is exploring expansion possibilities, with the potential return of the Montreal Expos being a key consideration. More than 20 years after the franchise relocated to Washington, D.C., to become the Nationals, efforts are underway to bring professional baseball back to Montreal.

WatchMojo CEO Ashkan Karbasfrooshan is reportedly attempting to form a group of shareholders to attract an MLB team to the city. Ownership-level sources within the league have indicated that Montreal is a city worth monitoring due to its baseball history and demographics.

Commissioner Rob Manfred has expressed a desire to select two expansion cities—one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast—before his retirement in January 2029. The approval of a new stadium for the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland Athletics' move to Las Vegas have cleared previous hurdles for expansion. Other cities receiving consideration include Salt Lake City, Nashville, Raleigh, Orlando, and Portland, Oregon.
