MLB teams approach qualifying offer deadline
Major League Baseball teams have until the November 2 deadline to extend qualifying offers to impending free agents. The qualifying offer is a one-year contract valued at $23.15 million, based on the average salary of the league’s 125 highest-paid players.
Players who receive an offer have until November 17 to decide whether to accept or reject it. If a player accepts, they remain with their current team for one year. If they decline and sign with a new club, the former team is awarded a compensatory draft pick, the value of which depends on revenue sharing and competitive balance tax status.
Eligibility for the offer is restricted to players who spent the entire previous season with a single team and have not previously received a qualifying offer in their career. Notable players discussed in relation to the upcoming window include Randy Arozarena and Michael King.
