MLB free agency preview highlights Arraez and Skubal

The upcoming 2026-27 Major League Baseball free agent market is beginning to take shape, with notable players identified in key positions.

In the second base market, Luis Arraez has emerged as a primary headliner. After transitioning back to the position following a period as a first baseman, Arraez has maintained high offensive production, including a .314 batting average, while demonstrating improved defensive capabilities.

The pitching market is expected to be headlined by Tarik Skubal. Other significant names include Freddy Peralta, who has seen a resurgence in performance after moving to the Tampa Bay Rays following a difficult stint with the New York Mets. Peralta's ability to stabilize his ERA and WHIP may influence whether he secures a long-term contract or a shorter-term deal to prove his value.
