MLB players face major contract and free agency decisions

As the Major League Baseball regular season concludes, several key players and teams face significant roster and contract decisions for the 2026-27 period.

The Oakland Athletics are evaluating club options for Jeff McNeil and Jeffrey Springs. McNeil holds a $15.75 million option following a season where he showed late-season momentum but remained near replacement level. Springs has a $15 million option despite a 6.18 ERA, though the Athletics face a shortage of pitching depth.

In Seattle, the Mariners must decide on Randy Arozarena, who enters free agency after a standout offensive season. Arozarena recorded a 151 wRC+ and 26 home runs, but his age and defensive decline may impact his market value. Estimates suggest a contract could range from $100 million over four years to upwards of $125 million over five years.

Additionally, the center field free agent market features various candidates. TJ Friedl, formerly of the Cincinnati Reds, has elected free agency following a difficult season that saw him designated for assignment and placed on waivers.
