MLB players protest after umpire penalizes rookie for tilted cap

A dispute over a player's hat tilt has sparked widespread protests in Major League Baseball. During a game against the Rockies, umpire Doug Eddings stopped play to instruct Cardinals rookie Hansel Rincon to straighten his tilted cap. The intervention led to a heated confrontation with Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol, resulting in Marmol's ejection from the game.

In response to the incident, players from both the Cardinals and the Rockies engaged in a silent protest during the following game by wearing their caps at an angle. Major League Baseball reportedly reprimanded Eddings, labeling his actions toward Rincon as “excessive” since there are no official regulations regarding how a player must wear their cap.

Eddings subsequently apologized to Rincon. The rookie pitcher stated that he has moved past the incident, noting that the umpire wished him well in his career and that there are no personal feelings remaining regarding the matter.
