MLB Players' Weekend returns with record custom gear
Major League Baseball (MLB) has launched its sixth edition of Players' Weekend, running from August 21st to 23rd. The event is designed to allow players to showcase their personal identities, passions, and charitable causes through customized equipment.
This year, more than 400 players have submitted custom bat designs, a record for the event. Players are using specialized gear, including custom bats from suppliers like Marucci and Victus, as well as colorful cleats, to highlight aspects of their lives such as hometowns, family, and hobbies. Additionally, players will wear a specific Players' Weekend logo patch on their New Era caps.
While the event focuses on self-expression through equipment, some fans have noted the absence of the bold, creative jerseys that were part of the tradition between 2017 and 2019. Following the weekend, players have the opportunity to auction their custom bats and cleats through MLB Auctions.
