MLB stars set record contracts amid injury setbacks
Major League Baseball stars are currently navigating a period of historic financial milestones and significant physical challenges. Juan Soto has secured the largest on-field contract in history, a 15-year, $765 million deal with the Mets that runs through 2039. He is followed by Shohei Ohtani, whose $700 million contract with the Dodgers features a unique structure where most of the compensation is deferred until 2034. Other massive deals include Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s 14-year, $500 million extension with the Toronto Blue Jays.
Despite these financial successes, several top players are facing injury setbacks. Aaron Judge, who previously achieved four seasons of at least 50 home runs, saw his 2026 season interrupted by a broken rib that sidelined him for over three months. Juan Soto has also faced health issues, being limited to 95 games this season due to calf injuries. Shohei Ohtani continues to maintain high performance levels, having earned four MVP awards since 2021.
