MLB trade deadline moves involve Guardians and Nationals
Major League Baseball teams have utilized recent trade deadline activity to reshape their rosters. The Cleveland Guardians acted as buyers, acquiring players such as Jo Adell from the Angels, Foster Griffin from the Washington Nationals, and Nathaniel Lowe to bolster their postseason contention.
Adell, acquired for catching prospect Jacob Cozart, became a mainstay in the Cleveland lineup, recording 32 RBIs in 48 games. Foster Griffin was traded to the Guardians in a four-player deal involving left-handers Will Dion and Josh Hartle to strengthen Cleveland's rotation.
The Washington Nationals employed a mixed strategy of buying and selling. While they acquired immediate help like Connelly Early, Will Dion, and Yovanny Cruz, they also moved several talents including Curtis Mead and Luis Garcia Jr. Looking toward a potential 2027 playoff push, the Nationals may consider using current assets like shortstop/second baseman CJ Abrams as trade chips to acquire high-profile hitters or starting pitchers.
